New Volunteer
New Volunteer played a one off show in Bath in 2005 as part of a charity event to help fund work with orphans in Romania. The show was based on material that Chris Mears had written, but also performed a recording he had made to raise money, after his trip to Romania. The band loved the gig, and the songs stood out so well, they made plans to record an album of new material which began in late 2006 in Colorado. Chris turned to songwriter and producer Nathan Johnson to collaborate on the project. It made complete sense too, the pair had worked on numerous projects together including the soundtrack for the indie flick Brick, an American tour in support of Nathan's Cinematic Underground and recently another soundtrack for the soon to be released followup to Brick, The Brothers Bloom. New Volunteer is a band not concerned with trends but instead "songs and sonics". Influenced by bands such as Radiohead and TV On The Radio, NV also draw influence from their work in film and dj'ing. The band hail from the south coast of England in Bournemouth. Having recently finished their debut album Remote Control Parade, they have been filming a video for LP opener All Their Peculiar Ways with film maker Scubaboy, who has recently been producing films for Unkle. The boys have spent the last 4 months playing shows locally but now find them selves pushing further afield.
