Maz Totterdell
Maz Totterdell returns to Club Fandango on April 4th to introduce ‘Sweep’, her imminent debut album. The teenage singer/songwriter saw her January single Counting My Fingers playlisted on BBC 6 Music following national radio plays on BBC Radio 2 (Sir Terry Wogan and Steve Lamacq), while her solo shows are a thing of fragile, embryonic beauty - at her initial London dates last year Maz managed to silence the usual in-gig chatter with her sensitive, intensely engaging performances. Not that she’ll be on her own tonight. Indeed, for the first time ever in London Maz will be performing with her band, and that band will be introducing ‘Sweep’ by playing through the album in its entirety. Cherish the live love, music people – only super Mazfans back home in Devon will get to experience this live playback when the feat is repeated at Mama Stone’s in Exeter on Tuesday 10th April. ‘Sweep’ was recorded in a tiny, rural shed studio during Maz’s school holiday and radiates youthful charm at its most inspiring. The singer’s eloquent, and possibly confessional, tales of complicated teen romance are imbued with cunning pop hooks and delivered with a confident sparkle; but not always - at times she is possessed by a melancholy that belies her tender years, as evinced by the noises lurking over at http://www.reverbnation.com/maztotterdell
