Spring 2013 saw gig promoting stalwarts Club Fandango turn 12 years old. To celebrate this highly unlikely event their in-house record company Label Fandango took it upon itself to release 12 digital singles by 12 of their very favouritest new acts throughout the entire year. Those singles were / are 79p each or for £7.99 you could / can subscribe to the Label Fandango hoedown and receive every single single plus a special bonus album's worth of material by all 12 acts when the year ends with a bang - well, an all-day Easter party at the Shacklewell Arms, anyway - on April 21st.

So we started waaay back on April 8th last year with 'Medicines' by Northern Irish dance floor thumpers ED ZEALOUS: then came Scottish shoegazey popsters THE MACHINE ROOM; Burnley's gothic princess DELOOZE; jauntily disturbed indie tykes DESPERATE JOURNALIST; and genteel janglers FELT TIP. Great virtual records all, and virtually all greatly admired on the underground and above.
Now we're almost at the halfway point in the release campaign and for a tiny wee moment there we were scratching our wee noggins and wondering where and when the next single release was going to come from and then - beep beep! - much like number like shiny red number 38 buses thundering along Balls Pond Road, four of them turned up at once. And here the four of them are:
DEPARTMENT M 'Miscellany' (released January 20th) Clanking, spanking electropop genius from Leeds, aka Owen Brinley from the Grammatics. Taken from the succinctly-titled Department M mini-album on fierce panda. www.facebook.com/departmentmband
LONGFELLOW 'Siamese Lover' (released January 27th)
Epic guitar pop palpitations from South London quintet who handsomely supported Keane last year. Playing at Camden Black Heart on March 6th.
THE STARKINS 'Roundabout' (released February 17th)
Feisty fresh-faced Yorkshire indiepop with more ounce to the bounce. Appearing at many excellently-named venues in Yorkshire between now and forever and playing a single launch at London Highbury Buffalo Bar on February 18th.
FELDSPAR 'Young & Invincible (released February 24th) Sweepingly emotive soft rockings from five men with DIY instincts and VIP melodies a-plenty. Playing a single launch party at London Islington Old Queens Head on February 27th. www.facebook.com/feldsparmusic
The final three releases out of the 12 x 12 single club have been scrubbed up, rubbed down and sent to a dark scented room to prepare for release in March. We aren't at liberty to tell you what those releases actually smell like yet but we can tell you that they are unbelievably fragrant.
